NRS:
Quarry Group
NRS Group operates multiple quarry and industrial sites across the West Midlands, supplying materials to the construction and infrastructure sectors. Their operations rely on continuous connectivity between sites, systems, vehicles and teams, typically in physically demanding environments where traditional infrastructure is limited or unavailable.

-
Environment: Multiple remote industrial sites
Scale: 6 quarry sites across the West Midlands
Challenge: Deliver connectivity across remote and below-ground environments
Solution: Multi-layered network infrastructure with resilient inter-site connectivity
Outcome: 99.99% uptime across a mission-critical industrial communications platform
-
1Gb private fibre circuits with dual-carrier resilience
Private wireless inter-site links
Bonded 5G, Starlink and SOGEA connectivity
Multi-connectivity architecture across all sites
Site-to-site LAN integration
Centralised VoIP deployment (100+ handsets)
Cyber Essentials compliant WiFi infrastructure
Remote monitoring and proactive management systems
Same-day and next-day engineering support arrangements
99.99% uptime achieved across all sites over four years
Outcome:
Pinnacom designed, deployed and continues to manage a fully interconnected communications platform across six quarry sites, providing resilient connectivity and long-term scalability across the NRS Group network.
Over the 10-year working relationship, the infrastructure has expanded alongside the business, supporting new quarry openings, operational growth and mission-critical industrial communications with uptime exceeding 99.99% across the last four years.
Challenge:
NRS required high-speed, highly resilient connectivity across multiple quarry sites, with some located up to five miles from the nearest village and more than 200 feet below ground level.
The network needed to:
Connect every quarry site into a single operational platform
Support centralised management systems across the business
Deliver reliable WiFi, telephony and vehicle connectivity
Maintain performance in remote and physically challenging environments
Scale alongside the continued expansion of the group
As the group’s locations expanded, reliability and instant support response became essential requirements.
Solution:
Pinnacom designed and deployed a layered communications infrastructure tailored to the unique demands of each site.
Two larger sites were connected using dedicated 1Gb private fibre circuits delivered by separate carriers, with additional private wireless links providing full resilience between locations. If one carrier failed, traffic would automatically fail over to the secondary connection.
More remote sites were supported using managed multi-network 5G SIM infrastructure, Starlink and SOGEA connectivity to deliver resilient high-speed internet where traditional infrastructure was limited.
Across the estate, Pinnacom has deployed:
A centralised VoIP telephone system with over 100 handsets
Site-wide WiFi infrastructure compliant with Cyber Essentials standards
Wireless links extending connectivity across remote operational areas
Remote monitoring and management systems with proactive support
The network is designed to remain expandable, allowing infrastructure to scale alongside future quarry developments and growth.
